A simple on-line journal of some of the events of our retirement. Not necessarily the most memorable or significant happenings - but those which remind us of our journey (and for which we had a camera at hand and remembered to use!)

Historic Cotter Bridge in Winter
Cotter is a historic railroad town, and although the train activity is not as busy as it once was, there is a refurbished depot and plenty of traffic that entertains us frequently by the whistles, rumbling down the tracks, and loud banging as the cars are uncoupled and coupled. This occurs down the hill from our house. Both of us are fond of trains, so they are welcome noises. We also enjoy frequent visits to the park below the Cotter bridge. The bridge was completed in 1930, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Plans to replace the bridge by the Arkansas Highway Department was vigorously objected to by the citizens of Cotter and thus the rerouting of Highway 62 over a new bridge constructed upriver. The old bridge was closed for refurbishing in 2003 and reopened in 2004.
